A mother of four in the UK has been left with serious and permanent injuries after a hot water bottle she was using exploded.

Sophie Mason (29) suffered sever burns to her legs and stomach after a hot water bottle she was using burst, scalding her and collapsing several veins due to the intensity of the injuries.

Mrs Mason had used water from her kettle to fill the bottle and when it burst, apart from the excruciating pain of the scalding, she also became instantly sick and collapse after a few moments due to the tissue damage.

After Mrs Mason’s husband phoned an ambulance, she went into shock was rushed to hospital where she required two skin grafts to repair the extensive damage to her stomach and leg, where her skin had burnt off.

A burn on her hand had even left her nerves exposed.

On 4 October, Sophie underwent a three-hour operation to cover her burns by replacing the skin in the area with skin from the back of her right thigh.

With the weather getting colder and Winter approaching, people, in particular women, are being urged to be cautious, when using hot water bottles and never use boiling water to fill.
