Hundreds of Muslims gathered at Croke Park for the seventh celebration of Eid at the iconic Dublin stadium.
Families from all over Ireland descended on the ground for a day of prayer, festivity and community engagement, reports RTE.
Former Taoiseach Bertie Ahern attended as an invited guest — a notable appearance given remarks he made while canvassing in Dublin during a recent by-election, in which he expressed concern about potential issues arising from the next generation of Muslims.
Mr Ahern addressed those gathered following prayers led by Sheikh Dr Umar Al-Qadri, acknowledging it as a “hugely important day,” reports RTE.
He noted that Eid celebrations were taking place in mosques across the country as well as at Croke Park, which he described as being “very close” to his home, before wishing those present a “really good” family day.

Dr Al-Qadri had earlier welcomed Mr Ahern’s presence and said the Muslim community believes in open dialogue, even in the face of disagreement, reports RTE.
Dr Al-Qadri, who had met with the former Taoiseach over the weekend, added that it is necessary to challenge prevailing narratives — particularly those put forward by politicians and policymakers.
Speaking directly to young Muslims in attendance, he stressed the value of integration and encouraged them to learn the Irish language, volunteer and become actively involved in their communities, reports RTE.
This year’s event carries particular significance as it marks the first time since the Covid pandemic that Eid prayers have been performed on the pitch itself.
A significant garda presence was in place at Croke Park, following the appearance of protesters at last year’s event, reports RTE.
Residents from the surrounding neighbourhood welcomed those arriving for the occasion and distributed gifts to children attending.
Monsignor Eoin Thynne was also present, representing the Catholic Church, reports RTE.
