According to latest figures released this week it is understood that more than 3,000 cars have been deemed dangerous and subsequently given Failed/Dangerous certificates by NCT centres in the first half of this year alone.

The figures suggest that by the end of the year NCT centres will have deemed over 6,000 too dangerous for the road, which is a full 1,200 more than in 2014. The latest statistics, compiled by the test operator Applus, have also showed that more vehicles have failed than passed the NCT between January and June of this year.

The latest report shows that a total of 822,668 vehicles have already been subjected to the test so far. It is understood that a staggering 419,905 (51%) vehicles failed the test whilst  399,704 (48.6%) passed. The report also stated that 3,059 were deemed extremely dangerous and were not fit for the road.

Applus say the cars currently undertaking tests this year are from the years 2011, 2009 and 2007, along with vehicles that are 10 years and older.

The news has not come as surprise to the AA who say that the current Failed/Dangerous rate is significantly low compared to the high number of NCTs undertaken this year. The agency claimed that the results are not alarming and say that they would be more concerned if dangerous defects weren’t being picked up by NCT inspectors.

Meanwhile the statistics compiled for the year 2015 suggest that NCT centres will have carried out a record number of tests by the years end.
