There have been nine confirmed fatalities after a heavy vehicle crashed through a crowded Christmas Market in Berlin this evening.
The incident happened at Breitscheidplatz, in the western part of central Berlin. The truck involved reportedly had Polish license plates.
Police have apprehended the driver, while another person who was inside the truck’s cabin was killed in the incident. It is not clear whether this person died as a result of the crash or police gunfire.
The event is being treated as a suspected terror attack, though no group or organization has yet claimed responsibility.
