According to reports today the cost of taxi fares could increase over the coming months in order to provide stability for drivers.
It is understood the average fair will increase by 3.5% per journey after The National Transport Authority outlined proposals.
However the proposed increase has been met with a less than positive response by taxi drivers who say the proposed increase isn’t enough to cover spiraling costs.
The Irish Taxi Driver’s Federation say in order to cover the costs of rising fuel prices and insurance premiums the NTA must provide a more realistic figure to satisfy its hard working drivers.
They also say an extra 3.5% is a mere drop in the ocean as some drivers are paying 300% more than they did this time last year.
