Nurses and midwives are claiming that the current level of patient care across Irish hospitals is constantly being compromised by staff shortages.
Over 35,000 nurses and midwives walked out of their jobs for 24 hours yesterday, in protest over dire pay and working conditions.
The Government, while awarding themselves pay rises, insist that they cannot afford to give more money to front-line staff. Further stoppages are planned for the coming weeks.
The row continues.
