According to various reports it is believed that staff at the much hated state utility Irish Water are calling vulnerable pensioners to sickeningly threaten them into paying their water bills.

The disgraceful behaviour was reported on Friday evening after thousands of people received notices from the company ordering them to pay their bills. The news comes after a group of Anti-Water charge protesters in Limerick City have claimed the company is relentlessly pressuring cash strapped people into paying their outstanding charges. The disgusting threats has angered a leading member of the We Won’t Pay campaign, Councillor Cian Prendiville. Mr Prendiville has slammed the company’s actions saying they are unfairly and unruly using bully tactics to scare the country’s vulnerable people. Mr Prendiville claimed the utility shamefully threatened one 67-year old man by telling him his supply would be “cut off” unless he paid his bill.

Mr Prendiville further explained: “Irish Water have begun cold calling people in Limerick over the last few days, targeting pensioners in particular, trying to bully them into paying this failing charge. “In at least one case I’ve heard Irish Water threatened to cut someone’s water off if they didn’t pay – an idle threat, as they legally cannot do that under legislation. “These calls are designed simply to scare people, part of a nationwide campaign of intimidation.” Mr Prendiville added: “All the calls I’ve heard about so far have been received by pensioners, indicating Irish Water are targeting the elderly in a new low, even for them.”
