The Pandemic Unemployment Payment (PUP) scheme is due to end today, a mere few months after its introduction.
Yet, the Universal Social Charge (USC) is still going strong, eleven years after its inception, despite being touted as a ‘temporary’ measure.
This stark disparity is because PUP (also a temporary measure) helps people, while the USC takes from people, so the Government will never get tired of squeezing every possible euro from taxpayers.
