We have received reports that the hostage situation is over and that two gunmen have been shot dead by French police. We must stress that this is very early breaking news and that it could alter as developments come to us.
One report claims inside the theatre where the hostages were being held is “carnage” and that makeshift bombs were thrown at the hostages.
French President Francois Hollande has declared a state of emergency in the country after a string of coordinated attacks on the capital, Paris, this evening.
The attacks have left at least 60 dead and hundreds more injured.
The situation unfolded quickly after an incident at a Cambodian restaurant, Cambodge, located in the 10th Arrondissement. A gunman was seen entering the premises and opening fire there.
Elsewhere, fifteen people are thought to have died in a Paris concert hall, while three more are thought to have died at Stade de France, where three explosions were heard.
French Army units have been deployed to contain the situation, and the French President Francois Hollande has been evacuated to a secure location.
It is unclear at this point who the perpetrators of these attacks are, but islamist extremists are thought to be involved.
