People aren’t happy with SSE Airtricity blaming the war on Ukraine on outlandish price hikes

People on social media say that they’re absolutely outraged at the prospect of winter heating price hikes – especially if they appear to be blamed on the war in Ukraine.

SSE Airtricity has announced that it will increase prices for its customers from October 1, with an increase of more than 35% in electricity bills and 39% in gas bills.

This is one of the largest price increases in the country’s energy sector.

The company said the war in Ukraine and “heightened geopolitical tensions” and had led to what it described as “a sustained and unprecedented rise in wholesale energy costs”, reports RTE.

The utility will increase the unit price of its electricity by 45.2% and the unit price of its gas by 46.3% starting October 1.
