An American family of nine, including six children, have been massacred in cartel ambush in Northern Mexico.
The nine U.S citizens all lived in a Mormon community in the North of the Narco-Terrorist ravaged semi-failed state.
Mexican authorities say the ambush of the family, who were traveling in three SUV’s took place near the town of Bavispe, about 100 miles south of the Arizona border, cartel gunmen opened fire in the vehicles, firing so many rounds that one of the cars exploded.
Some of the SUVs were travelling back to the U.S while one was travelling to a wedding in a neighbouring town.
Relatives of the family have speculated that the killings were a case of mistaken identity but so far, no motive for the atrocity has been established.
In all 17 people belonging to the LeBaron family were travelling in the convoy with six of the nine killed being children, including two seven-month-old twins.
In response President Trump tweeted:
“This is the time for Mexico, with the help of the United States, to wage WAR on the drug cartels and wipe them off the face of the earth. We merely await a call from your great new president!”
Mexico has been embroiled in a war with powerful drug cartels for many years with tens of thousands having been killed and large swathes of the country becoming ungovernable or under the control of criminal enterprises.
