U.S President Donald Trump has become only the third American Commander-in-Chief to be impeached but despite this his approval rating has increased according to a recently released Gallup poll.
According to the poll and as reported in the Daily Mail President Trump’s approval rating jumped six points from October to December, now sitting at 45% while support for impeachment dropped two per-cent.
To the surprise of no-one President Trump was impeached in the Democrat controlled House-of-Representatives on two counts of charges of abuse of power and obstructing Congress in relation to a phone call with the Ukraine President.
However, it is extremely unlikely the impeachment will lead to President Trump’s removal from office when it goes to the Republican controlled Senate for trial next year.
Democrats have attempted to impeach President Trump before, even once forcing a vote on impeachment in the House over comments the President made in regard to NFL players who were kneeling during the American national anthem.
Meanwhile, Republican lawmakers on Capitol Hill have highlighted comments by some of their Democratic counterpart, such as Al Green, who stated his support for impeachment of President Trump out of fear he may win re-election in November 2020.
