Prince Harry and Meghan Markle dismiss South Park lawsuit rumour over “upsetting episode”

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have reportedly dismissed claims that they were planning to sue the producers of animated comedy South Park, reports BBC.

An episode titled The Worldwide Privacy Tour featured two characters who resemble Harry and Meghan on a worldwide tour seeking their privacy.

The couple’s spokesperson told People: “It’s all frankly nonsense. Totally baseless, boring reports,” reports BBC.

The 22-minute episode aired last week.

Centered around a redheaded character and his wife who move to South Park, Colorado, “Prince of Canada” is seen promoting his book around the world.

Stan Marsh, one of the show’s main characters, refers to the fictional couple as “dumb prince and his stupid wife”, reports BBC.

Created by Trey Parker and Matt Stone, South Park premiered on Comedy Central in 1997 and has often featured characters who resemble famous faces.

The animated series begins each episode with a disclaimer stating that all of its characters are fictional.

However, while Harry and Meghan’s names are not mentioned in the episode, the Canadian prince’s fictional book appears to be a reference to Prince Harry’s memoir, Spare, which was released earlier this year.

Spare became the best-selling non-fiction book in the UK since the record began in 1998. It sold 467,183 copies in its first week, according to official figures from Nielsen Bookdata, reports BBC.

The book outlines very personal grievances and bitterness in the royal family, such as the claim that she and Prince William urged their father not to marry Camilla.

It also gives behind-the-scenes details of his conflict with his brother, Prince William, heir to the throne.

Harry sat down with UK and US broadcasters to promote the book, with CBS describing his interview with the royal as “explosive”, reports BBC.
