Property tax will increase over time says Howlin

Brendan-Howlin

The Minister for Public Expenditure Brendan Howlin has claimed that property taxes will significantly increase over time.

Mr Howlin made his comments ahead of next months budget saying the proposed tax reliefs will focus more on workers rather than homeowners. The news comes as the Government have already promised to delay any increases to the property until November 2016.

Although Mr Howlin has suggested the announcement will not be made official until next year. Mr Howlin told reporters: “Well, I mean property taxes will increase organically over time, but there is a fair tax burden on people right now.”

He added: “So the focus as we have agreed with Fine Gael in the upcoming budget will be to reduce the taxation pressure on people, but primarily the taxation pressure on people who are at work.”
