Protests broke out in Minneapolis overnight following the fatal shooting of yet another young black man by police.
It is understood that the deceased, 20-year-old Daunte Wright, was pulled over for a traffic violation. When police checked his ID, it transpired that there was an outstanding warrant in Wright’s name. He was shot dead shortly afterwards for reasons that remain unclear.
Demonstrations broke out almost immediately, leading to authorities to impose a curfew.
This latest killing of a young black man comes against the background of Derek Chauvin’s trial, the officer charged in connection with the death of George Floyd in the same city in May of 2020.
