Publicans meet Irish government face to face for the first time since the Coronavirus kicked off and they are not happy with Irish government’s most authoritarian lockdown in Europe

Up till now, publicans in Ireland have been a passive bunch. They were not very vocal right through the pandemic and if they were, the media broadcasters didn’t report their opposition to the the most authoritarian lockdown in Europe.

Padraig Cribben, Chief Executive Of the Vintners’ Federation of Ireland (VFI), said that the delay announced this week for indoor dining was the “the blackest day” the industry has faced since March 2020 reports the Irish Mirror.

“I was involved in the discussions with the Taoiseach, Tanaiste and other Ministers yesterday. There isn’t a plan, that’s the point that we were making. Essentially, there were talks about a plan but we made it quite clear that this concept of a COVID pass – for many reasons – is certainly not one that is favoured by us,” said Mr Cribben”.
