Fundraiser page raises €32,000 for little German girl who was crying at the end of the England game and got badly trolled online

A horrible sight amidst the celebrations of England’s victory of Germany in Wembley Stadium saw a little German girl crying her eyes out being cradled by her father in the crowd.

Even the BBC commentator said “no matter who you support, you don’t like to see that”.

However, it appeared some online thugs did in fact like to see it and trolled the little girl referencing the War and Anne Frank.

51-yr-old Welshman Joel Hughes has since set up a fundraising page to give the girl a gift and a little lift after all the trolling. The initial aim was for £500 but it has since reached some £30,000. The issue however is that no one knows who the girl or her father is yet.

On the JustGiving page, Joel writes:

So yeah, England beat Germany in a major competition at last (well done).

However, an unsavouraby element of social media piled in on this photo of an upset little girl (as seen in this tweet by Stan Collymore).

Pretty horrible – to put it mildly.

Yes, there are more people affected by this than just this little girl but hey, this is just meant to be a token of goodwill. Yes there are other potential good causes – but I’ve picked this.

I’d like to think that the parents of the little girl will spend this on a nice treat for her so that she knows that not everyone from the UK is horrible and that we care.

No, I don’t think this will change the world. But it can do one thing for that little girl.

No, I don’t know who the girl is (yet) but I know social media can sort that out. 🙂

peace x

Joel
