There are people who truly go to extraordinary lengths to help those in need, which leaves us all teary eyed and full of admiration for those who willingly go the extra mile to help their fellow man, and now it seems one little girl has shown us what it truly means to help those in need by doing something quite remarkable.

The little girl named Savannah McCrum from Blanchardstown, has caught the nations attention after she decided to help other girls her own age by chopping off her beloved ponytail and donating her hair to a charity that makes wigs for terminally ill children who are coping with hair loss. The brave nine-year-old donated more than 14 inches of beautiful locks to Rapunzel, an Irish charity that supports children coping with hair loss and alopecia by supporting Freedom Wigs.

The remarkable story came to light when Savannah’s proud mum Kim McCrum told reporters of her remarkable gesture, a delighted Kim said: “She’s been growing her hair since she was five and last Monday we went to the hair dressers and cut off her 14 inch ponytail. She was really nervous and she was a bit emotional afterwards, but now she’s delighted with her bob.”

“Everybody was so proud of her, and people who knew her were stopping her in the street. It’s been brilliant.”

However the young girl’s kindness doesn’t stop there because the third class student has also been relentlessly raising funds for a well known Irish charity Aoibheann’s Pink Tie, who actively supports children battling with cancer and their families. Little Savannah began raising funds for the charity after meeting its founder Jimmy Norman, who lost his daughter to cancer when she was just eight.

Kim further explained: “Savannah would be quite friendly with Jimmy’s daughters whenever we meet them, and she decided to being raising funds to support Aoibheann’s Pink Tie. “She asked for support from her family, friends and teachers and donated all the money to Jimmy’s charity.

“I’m well proud of her. I don’t think she even knows the extent of everything she’s done to help others.”
