The U.S State of Louisiana is poised to pass a bill that would see people convicted of sex crimes against children aged under 13-year-old, surgically castrated.
The Republican-controlled state legislature passed legislation giving judges the power to order the castration of child sex offenders and the bill now goes to Governor Jeff Landry to sign or veto, however the Republican is expected to sign off on the popular proposal.
While a number of U.S States allow for chemical castration of sex offenders, should this bill become law, Louisiana will be the first to allow the physical removal of a child abuser’s genitalia.
While the bill enjoys overwhelming support amongst Republican lawmakers in the Deep South State, Democrats have, as expected, opposed harsher punishment for paedophiles in keeping with their trend nationally.
