Rescue workers save girl, 5, from the rubble of a collapsed building




A 5-year-old girl has been rescued from the rubble of a collapsed building that has sadly already claimed the lives of 10 people, authorities in Turkey have confirmed.

It is believed that the little girl who was trapped under the rubble for 18 hours was saved by rescue workers who are searching for survivors.

The rescue comes after ten people were tragically killed in the incident which occurred in Kartal district, of Istanbul, on Wednesday.

Authorities leading the rescue mission say thirteen people including a nine-year-old have been saved from the rubble of the eight story building.

Although it is not yet what caused the building to collapse, police say the top three floors of 14 apartment building were built illegally.

It is understood that the building housed a total of 43 residents and rescue workers say they believe there could be more survivors as they have already heard a number of noises from beneath the rubble.

Meanwhile the Istanbul governor Ali Yerlikaya, has confirmed that three of the injured people rescued from the rubble are in serious condition in hospital.
