Romanian man Marian Lingurar Jnr gets manslaughter in relation to the death of Galway man in his own pub

A Romanian man has been found guilty of manslaughter for the brutal torture and beating to death of publican John Kenny in his own bar in 2011.

Marian Lingurar Jnr (24) who was 16 at the time, was working as a doorman in Mr Kenny’s pub in Main Street, Oughterard, Galway when in the early morning of September 25th, 2011 Lingurar allegedly returned to the pub with his father and several men other men.

According to RTE, prosecution successfully argued that when Lingurar finished his shift at 1:30 AM and left with barman Florin Fitzpatrick, Mr Kenny was still inside the pub with two other people. One of whom was Vasile Muntean, another Romanian.

Muntean was already known to Gardai and his fingerprints were recovered at the scene of the murder.

Mr Lingurar returned to the pub with his father where they met the other men who were part of the plot to rob Mr Kenny (56).

Mobile phone data and CCTV footage proved they were at the pub between 2:30 and 3:00 AM on the night of Mr Kenny’s death.

It is thought that the robbery went wrong, and Mr Kenny was tied up and viciously beaten eventually succumbing to his multiple injuries.

Mr Kenny’s horrifically injured corpse was discovered tied up in the lady’s bathroom of his pub by his wife and daughter.

Detective Garda Henry Burke gave evidence that Gardaí are still actively seeking two other men for questioning, including Vasile Muntean
