Ronald DeFeo, the real-life killer who inspired the Amityville Horror movie series, has passed away in prison aged 69.
DeFeo used a shotgun to kill his parents and four siblings as they slept in their home in Ocean Avenue, Amityville, Long Island, in November 1974. When questioned about a motive, DeFeo said he heard voices in his head telling him that his family was plotting against him. He was sentenced to 25 years in prison.
DeFeo’s cause of death has not been disclosed.
