Rumours circulate that the DUP could change their mind on Brexit deal

Although a No-Deal Brexit is now firmly on the cards, today’s vote in Westminster has a chance of going through, and it could be because of the DUP.

On Wednesday night, the DUP leader Arlene Foster announced that her party will not back Theresa May’s latest Brexit deal.

Speaking to Sky News, Ms Foster said although the party appreciates Ms May’s efforts in securing a deal. Her party cannot support the latest proposals as it doesn’t make any significant changes to the backstop.

It’s looking likely now that there could be a possibility of General Election before Brexit actually happens, especially if today’s vote goes up in ruins.

But there’s talk amongst political commentators that the DUP uncharacteristically showed their hand before they normally does and that they could well “change” their mind and vote for the deal.

Ms Foster and the DUP have been opposed to Ms May’s previous deals also said the current deal would threaten the union of the United Kingdom.

The DUP leader told the broadcaster that her party couldn’t sign up to a deal that would damage the union.

She said that her party felt there were no significant changes to the backstop agreement and the prospect of a border in the Irish Sea is something that Northern Ireland can accept.

However despite rejecting the deal, Ms Foster said that there was still room for negotiation and it wasn’t a case of deal or no deal.

Theresa May has said that she will step down from her position if she can get enough MPs to push through her Brexit deal, but this is very unlikely.
