Vladimir Putin has claimed that Russia has approved the world’s first Covid-19 vaccine.
In a statement made to his government, the Russian president said that the vaccine was a ‘very important step for the world’, and thanked the scientists of Moscow’s Gamaleya Institute for their work, the Metro reports.
However, critics have raised concerns over the vaccine’s safety and efficacy having only undergone two months of testing. According to the WHO, across the world over 100 potential vaccines are in development. Four are currently in Phase 3 of human testing, meaning that they may be close to completion.
