Scam alert: Paypal users warned to be vigilant as new scam sees people losing thousands

Paypal users have been warned of a new scam that’s going round and seeing people lose thousands of euros through no fault of their own.

“Deals” are being done with the “buyer” pretending to send the legitimate seller money in a sort-of escrow account.

The fake “buyer” messages the seller after agreeing a price and asking for the seller’s paypal email address.

From there, the seller receives a falsified email which looks legit but it completely fake. It says that the user must send the goods and then reply to the email with a tracking number. Once that is done, the payment will be released.

This is completely false and is a total scam. There is no money, there is no escrow account and there is no legitimate buyer.

People are advised to immediately block anyone who tries this, report it to paypal and the gardai.

The email appears below with a reply address ending in @consultant.com
