The rising costs of motor insurance in Ireland is just another indicator of the gross mismanagement of resources and the overall trend of ripping people off that is so prevalent among businesses here.
Policy renewal notices have started arriving through the letterbox, including for yours truly, who noticed an increase of almost €200 on last year’s premium, with no claim or accident on my part. When queried, the customer rep at the end of the line quoted the usual official line of rising costs, etc. This is the second year running when two different companies attempt the same con.
Chief executive of AA Ireland Brendan Nevin has said that: “After a long period of cost stability, average prices have risen by almost 40pc since January 2014,” he said.
“If the root causes we’ve identified are tackled head on, we can quickly create a stable and sustainable market for motor insurance. If they are not, then we will continue to suffer uncertainty, market failures and unacceptably high prices.”
