According to Taoiseach Simon Harris, when the next administration is established in five years, he would be “obsessed” with delivery, reports Breaking News.
As members of his Fine Gael party gathered in Dublin to start the process of approving the draft government program, the Taoiseach was speaking.
The question of whether members of the Regional Independents group, which would be a component of the potential new government, may also establish a technical group on the opposition benches has to be clarified, according to Mr. Harris, reports Breaking News.
The proposal that is anticipated to result in the creation of the new government was agreed upon by Fianna Fáil, Fine Gael, and a number of independent TDs in the wake of the general election results in November.
The government’s 162-page blueprint, which was released this week, lists additional gardaí, lower childcare expenses, and smaller class sizes as goals, reports Breaking News.
When the Dáil convenes on Wednesday and the new coalition is established, Fianna Fáil leader Micheál Martin is anticipated to succeed Mr. Harris as taoiseach.
After three years, the position will return to Mr. Harris for an additional two years.
However, the proposed governmental plan must first be approved by the parties, reports Breaking News.
On Sunday, Fianna Fáil will host a special Ard Fheis.
Over the next several days, Fine Gael will host a number of regional gatherings.
Speaking before the first meeting got under way, Mr Harris said: “This is a new process for my party, the first time that we are holding a series of regional meetings right across the country where every member who has been a member for two years or more has a vote in our electoral college system. It is an opportunity for people to come out, to hear from the people who have negotiated on behalf of Fine Gael the programme for government and then to cast their vote,” reports Breaking News.
He added: “We have agreed a programme for government that is very true to the Fine Gael manifesto. Fine Gael, Fianna Fáil and some independents have worked together to put in place really exciting plans about the direction we want to take this country in over the next five years. But really the key word here is delivery. I think the challenge and opportunity for the new government, which I look forward to playing a leadership role in, is delivery, delivery, delivery. That is what I heard from people right across the country,” reports Breaking News.
Mr Harris said: “That is going to be my absolute obsession and that of my colleagues in government over the next few years,” reports Breaking News.
