“Some may want to leave” – Potential huge cuts for Ukrainians to be debated in Cabinet

Prime Minister Leo Varadkar said Ireland must match its offer of Ukrainian refugees with those of other European countries, reports The Mirror.

However, Mr Varadkar noted that cuts to social benefits could only affect people using state-provided housing.

There is an expectation that this week the government will agree to change the housing and social care package for newly arrived Ukrainian refugees, reports The Mirror.

Under plans to be discussed by the Cabinet in the coming days, state-provided housing will be reduced to 90 days and the weekly allowance will be reduced to €38.50.

There is currently no time limit on how long refugees fleeing Russia’s war in Ukraine can stay in state-provided facilities, reports The Mirror.
