According to new reports the country’s motorway system could soon see a new lighting plan in order to cut down energy cost’s.
It is understood that Transport Infrastructure Ireland is currently in the process of developing a plan that will see all overhead lights on motorways being switched off earlier in the mornings and being switched on later at night.
The new system is being brought in because new EU laws state that energy efficiency of all motorway lighting must be improved by 33% over the next five years.
It is believed that Transport Infrastructure Ireland will heavily invest in new replacement LED lights with all costs being offset over the next ten years.
