Meet Margaret Loughrey, the recent national lottery winner from Strabane, Co. Tyrone.
48-yr-old Margaret recently won a gigantic €34 million in the UK national lottery. Margaret, umemployed at the time, bought her ticket from a local Centra shop on her way home from collecting her £70 a week dole.
When she found out she won, Margaret made the decision to give all but €1 million away. She’s donating the money to her town of Strabane mostly. She is buying shops, redeveloping landmarks, building facilities for employment and even tried to buy the towns business park for a crafts village.
Personally, I couldn’t give that much away – 1 out of 34 is bad odds to run with. I’d give some to charity alright but as Margaret said “what I never had, I won’t miss”.
