Syria has been plunged into darkness by a power blackout caused by the explosion at a gas pipeline believed to be carried out by ISIS.
According to RT, a US envoy told the press the explosion was ‘almost certainly a strike by ISIS’, adding that it was the sixth time the pipeline had been targeted.
Situated just outside the capital Damascus, the pipeline supplied gas to power stations who were unable to function following the blast. Alongside residential and business areas of the city, key facilities such as hospitals also suffered electrical shortages.
Experts have been warning for some time that ISIS are regaining power and energy in their heartland of Iraq and Syria, and have warned that their operations are certain to increase in the currently unstable world.
