Taoiseach Enda Kenny picked up the red phone last night and dialed the direct line to the States. US Vice-President Elect Mike Pence picked up, and the two had a good chat about, presumably, important issues.
Despite having previously referred to Donald Trump’s comments as ‘racist and dangerous’, now that daddy-o has his golden-ringed finger casually tapping on the nuclear button, Mr. Kenny has adopted a rather more fawning attitude towards the new Administration. The Taoiseach was quick to express his ‘sincere congratulations’ to Mr. Trump after the latter’s shocking victory.
Mr. Kenny then turned his attentions to the VP and former Indiana Governor Mike Pence, a man who once referred to himself as “a Christian, a conservative and a Republican, in that order.”
Mr. Pence is an ultra-conservative, evangelical Christian who strongly opposes gay rights and once signed into law one of the strictest abortion laws in the United States.
But nevertheless, according to the Taoiseach, Mr. Pence truly “knows Ireland and the issues that matter to our people.”
