Taoiseach says the country is going in the right direction as 170,000 vaccines planned for this week

The Taoiseach Micheal Martin has said that the country is going in the right direction as the Covid-19 vaccination programme is beginning to pick up pace.

In a tweet the Taoiseach revealed that over 140,000 doses of the vaccine were administered last week and it is continuing to gain momentum.

Martin told his followers that the plan for this coming week is to have 170,000 doses administered with 26 vaccination centres set to open by the weekend.

He went on to say that the overall aim is to have those aged 60 to 69 vaccinated with their first dose by the end of May.

The Taoiseach said as the vaccination programme gathers more momentum the Government will have a greater chance of reopening society.
