Taxi driver granted bail after being charged with the alleged rape of a woman in his taxi after collecting her at Dublin venue

A taxi driver who was charged with raping a young woman in his car has been released on bail, with strict conditions.

According to the Irish Mirror, the man is in his 40s and allegedly drove the woman around the city after collecting her at a city centre venue in Dublin.  It is alleged that he got into the back seat of the car and raped the woman repeatedly before getting back into the front seat.  It is then alleged that he drove her home after finding her address in his phone.

The man’s solicitor told the Court that he would be vigorously defending himself, and that he would be saying that it was consensual.

After a discussion on bail in Court, the judge decided to give the man bail on condition that he reside at a certain address in south Dublin, sign on three times a week  with Gardai, and a number of other conditions.
