An 18-year-old teenager has undergone surgery in University Hospital Waterford after being stabbed a number of times last night. His condition is presently unknown.
The incident happened as the young man was waiting in the queue of a nightclub. A row broke out, and two men assaulted him with a stabbing weapon.
It is understood the man was due to start college this week.
Gardaí have issued an appeal for witnesses, particularly anyone who may have been in the John Street/John Bridge area of Waterford between 11pm and midnight, to contact 051-305300, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any garda station.
