Grocery retailer Tesco has announced that it will shed up to 4,500 jobs across its Metro stores in the UK, as the company prepares for a streamlining of its business practices.
Metro stores are smaller, local retail spaces, much like Tesco Express here in Ireland. Management has said that 153 stores across the UK will be affected by this decision.
Tesco bosses also say that the chain is feeling the pressure of discount retailers such as Lidl and Aldi, which have gained significant market share in recent years.
