Tesla recalls over 300,000 vehicles in US because of rear light issues

Tesla is recalling more than 300,000 vehicles in the United States due to potential taillight issues.

The Texas-based electric vehicle maker said the recall affects select 2023 Model 3 and 2020-2023 Model Y vehicles.

Tesla said it has received no reports of accidents or injuries related to the recall of approximately 321,000 vehicles.

It is understood that the company will provide an over-the-air update to fix the issue, which causes the taillights to not flash.

The measure came to light after a filing with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) was made public today.

Days ago, the company recalled about 30,000 Model X cars over an issue that could cause the front passenger frontal airbag to inflate incorrectly and increase the risk of injury.

Earlier this month, the company recalled more than 40,000 Model S and Model X vehicles due to the risk of power steering loss when driving on rough roads or after hitting a pothole.

ESLA reported 19 recall campaigns in the US in 2022 covering more than 3.7 million vehicles, according to NHTSA data.

The latest withdrawals are likely to fuel concerns among some Tesla investors about whether Elon Musk can properly focus on his role as CEO of the world’s most valuable automaker who now runs Twitter.

His brief administration of the platform has been marred by controversy with mass layoffs and the departure of disgruntled staff, prompting warnings the site could crash during the World Cup.

At a Tesla shareholders’ meeting in August, before the $44 billion acquisition deal closed, Musk was asked about a succession plan, and responded: “I intend to stay with Tesla as long as I can be useful,” reports Sky.

And he added: “We do have a very talented team here. So I think Tesla would continue to do very well even if I was kidnapped by aliens or went back to my home planet maybe,” reports Sky.

Tesla director James Murdoch recently told a court that Musk had identified a potential successor to lead the company, but did not name them.
