“They should be jailed like adults” – People aren’t happy with two 17-yr-olds being found guilty of violent disorder that saw girl knocked head-first under a DART at Howth station

Many people on social media have been saying that there should be much harder and longer sentences for people found guilty of vicious and violent crimes.

Some social media users say that anyone from the age of the reason should be sent to jail regardless of reaching full adulthood at 18.

Two Dublin teenagers have been found guilty of violent disorder that saw a teenage girl brutally being knocked head-first under a DART at Howth Station on April 1st 2021.

CCTV footage saw the shocking incident take place where the girl had to be helped back up onto the platform by her friends and DART staff.

RTE reports that gardaí were given directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions and charged three 17-yr-olds with violent disorder, one of which had a second charge for assault causing harm to the girl.

His case has been separated and sent forward to the Circuit Court for trial.

They pleaded not guilty and their names and addresses cannot be made public because they’re under 18.

Thankfully, gardai managed to identify the thugs with the help of confidential information from the public. It’s understood that one of the boys kicked a girl in the head from his bike.

The national broadcaster reports that the Judge said there was a clear threat of violence.

The Judge said that they had no prior criminal convictions and he adjourned sentencing them for preparation of probation reports. The case continues in June.

The boys were accompanied to the hearing by their family and have been ordered to obey their bail conditions.
