About 5,000 pensioners are in line for refunds after being charged too much tax by the Revenue Office.
The blunder was caused when people who get both a State and a private pension were issued with the wrong tax certificates for the month of February. Officials then wrongly assumed that these people were receiving double the State pension, and additional credits were deducted from their private pension, thus negatively impacting on their pension entitlements.
The Revenue Commissioner has apologized for the mistake, and all due refunds will be issued shortly.
