A man who has been convicted 118 times before is serving a 15-month jail sentence for stealing a Peugeot 206, reports RTE.
On September 17, 2022, Sean Keenan, 28, formerly of Rosse Court Heights, Balgaddy, County Dublin, entered a guilty plea to the charge of taking a car and car keys from a residence at Holywell View, Swords, Dublin. The case was heard by the Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.
Keenan has been found guilty of 118 offences in the past, including theft, violence, criminal damage, public order, and traffic violations.
“This man has not been dealt the best hand in life,” Judge Martin Nolan remarked as he handed down his sentence, pointing out Kennan’s lengthy record of prior convictions, reports RTE.
According to Judge Nolan, the early guilty plea, the confessions, and the strong collaboration with the gardaà were mitigating circumstances in this instance.
Keenan was given a sentence of 27 months in jail, with the last 12 months suspended for a year by Judge Nolan. In addition, he mandated that Keenan spend a year following his release under the supervision of the Probation Services.
Police The car owner discovered at 8 a.m. on the morning in question that his Peugeot 206 was gone from the driveway and that his car keys were stolen from the car hook in the hallway, according to Brian Murphy, BL, the prosecutor, reports RTE.
According to Garda Murphy, suspicious behaviour by a man was observed in that location on CCTV video that was retrieved. Then it was revealed that this man was Keenan. His home was given a search warrant, and clothes that matched what was shown on camera were taken.
The Peugeot was parked in the apartment complex parking lot as well, reports RTE.
According to the court, Keenan was taken into custody, questioned, and arrested. He revealed information to the gardaà throughout his interrogation.
He said that because he had been drinking and doing drugs at the time, he could not recall what he had done with the Peugeot’s vehicle keys. He admitted to the gardaà that he had taken the car keys with a fishing hook. The owner received their automobile back in perfect condition.
Keenan is scheduled for release in May 2025 after completing a three-year jail sentence, reports RTE.
