Tired of working 8 hours a day? Well a number of Swedish companies may have come up with a way to improve the working day

Everyone is officially back to work today with the majority of the country’s schools returning after the Christmas break, which leaves everybody counting down to the next holiday in a few months time.

However the thought of going back to work this week can be daunting experience for some with many dreading the commute to work and tirelessly working for 8 or more hours a day for little pay. The whole experience can leave many of us watching the clock until quitting time, although the gruelling experience could soon be set to change if Ireland and the rest of the EU switch to a 6 hour working day like our Swedish counterparts.

Yes! We could soon experience a shorter working day in the future as leading website Science Alert, found that many Swedish companies had better productivity, happier staff and better sales since switching to a shorter day. The revolutionary change came into effect a number of years ago after Toyota centres in Sweden’s second largest city, Gothenburg, implemented the scheme, which saw the company soon reporting that they had an increase in profits and a lower turnover during that time.

The move has somewhat become more of trend amongst Swedish companies, with many opting to take on the new scheme. Here is hoping that Irish companies follow suit.
