The father of tragic two-year-old boy found dead earlier today in a Ballybrack apartment in Co. Dublin today has learned of his son’s fate, according to sources.

It also transpired that the same boy was the object of a nationwide search earlier in the year. Gardai had issued a Child Rescue Alert for the toddler last August. Such alert means that there is a ‘reasonable belief that there is an immediate and serious risk to the health or welfare of the child.’

He was found safe and well on that occasion.

Today, however, the boy’s dead body was found at a property in Ridge Hall, Ballybrack village, after the alert was raised by a friend of the boy’s mother.

It is understood that the child died of a single stab wound. His mother, a woman in her 40s, has been arrested under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.
