Shocking: Two children taken to hospital following petrol bomb attack on their home

According to reports two children were taken to hospital with burns following a petrol bomb attack on their home in Waterford city last night.

Its believed that an 11-year-old girl and her very young sister who is thought to be only 1 year old suffered serious burns and cuts after a petrol bomb was thrown into their home in Ardmore Park, Ballybeg at approximately 9pm last night. It is understood that  the two children were in the sitting room when the horrific attack occurred. Gardai say the petrol bomb was thrown through the front window and exploded in the room.

It is thought that the young children were sitting on the sofa at the time. Their grandmother rushed into room and managed to put out the flames with a fire extinguisher. Gardai have said that the children’s injuries are very serious but not life-threatening. They are being treated at Waterford University Hospital. It is also reported that two other children were upstairs at the time of the attack.

Gardai have arrested a man in his 20s and he is being held at Waterford Garda Station. The scene of the attack has also been preserved for a technical examination.
