Abbie Carmody-Pepper from Ballymun had been visiting Burrow Beach with friends when she went missing after entering the water.

The 15-yr-old’s parents have thanked the local community for their love and support following her death yesterday.

Her body was recovered from the water on Sunday evening after a search operation involving the Irish Coast Guard, gardaí, and Howth RNLI.

The Coast Guard and lifeboat were called to assist shortly after 6pm. The Howth RNLI inshore lifeboat attended the scene, and Abbie’s body was recovered and brought to the RNLI station.

Local Ballymun councillor Gavin Pepper, a relative of the family, expressed his deep sadness over the tragedy. He visited the family on Sunday evening and said that Abbie’s parents, Wayne and Mandy, want to thank everyone for their kindness at this very difficult time. They are now asking for privacy as they grieve the loss of their daughter.

Fianna Fáil councillor Cathal Haughey also offered his sympathies to Abbie’s family and friends. He noted that the beach had been extremely busy over the weekend, with large numbers of people arriving by DART. He described the incident as a stark reminder of how quickly things can go wrong in the water, even during good weather. The entire community is saddened and shocked by the loss.
