
Tributes have been paid to an Irish-based man who tragically lost his life in a drowning incident in Portugal.
Oleksandr Kurinnyy (44), known locally as Alex, drowned while on holiday on the Portuguese island of Madeira, off the coast of Africa, on Saturday, November 1st, reports Breaking News.
He had been living with his family in Ballycurrane, Thurles, Co Tipperary, and had previously resided in Tullamore, Co Offaly. His family originally hail from Eastern Europe, reports Breaking News.
Alex had worked for more than a decade at Dew Valley Foods, where he was employed as a general operative in the meat factory. His family have been part of the Thurles community for many years.
Paying tribute, one colleague said: “Sincere sympathies to Svitlana, Vlana and all of Oleksandr’s family on their sudden and sad loss. It was a pleasure to have known and worked with Oleksandr for several years. Thoughts with you all at this difficult time,” reports Breaking News.
The DAPA Dance Club in Thurles, which his daughter attended, also expressed condolences, saying: “Everyone at DAPA was shocked and saddened to hear of the death of Oleksandr …our thoughts and prayers are with Lana, Vlada and all his family and friends at this extremely sad time,” reports Breaking News.
Local TD Ryan O’Meara (FF) also extended his sympathy to the family “at this very sad time”.
Alex is predeceased by his mother, Nadia (Kurinna), and is survived by his wife Lana, daughter Vlana, brother Oleksii, colleagues at Dew Valley Foods, neighbours, and many friends, reports Breaking News.
No funeral arrangements have been announced at this time.
It is understood that the Department of Foreign Affairs is providing consular assistance to the family, reports Breaking News.
