
A man in his 20s has died following a single-vehicle collision in north Co Dublin in the early hours of Friday morning.
The crash occurred on the R121 at The Ward at approximately 12.40am, reports Breaking News.
The man was taken from the scene by ambulance and pronounced dead shortly afterwards.
His death marks the 70th fatality on Irish roads in 2026, tracking slightly above the figure recorded at the same point last year, reports Breaking News.
Of the deaths recorded so far this year, 30 have involved drivers, making them the single largest group among road fatalities.
A special bank holiday roads policing operation has been in place since Thursday and will continue until Tuesday, with gardaà targeting intoxicated driving, speeding, mobile phone use and failure to wear seatbelts, reports Breaking News.
GardaÃ, in conjunction with the Road Safety Authority, warned that the June bank holiday was one of the busiest periods on Irish roads.
“Every member of An Garda SÃochána on duty this weekend will be conducting road traffic enforcement activity. They will have an increased presence on the roads to detect intoxicated driving,” a Garda statement said, reports Breaking News.
