The Freedom Convoy has reached Ottawa as thousands of truckers led the protest against Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s Covid restrictions.
Initially starting out as a protest against vaccine mandates, the convoy has developed into a crusade against all of Canada’s restrictions, which are among the most severe in the world. They have been harshly enforced by the Prime Minister, who has been criticised for his divisive comments and arrogant attitude towards those who disagree with his tactics.
Trudeau, who was widely expected to lose the recent election, was said to have fled the city with his family as tens of thousands turned out to support the convoy. They lined the streets in bitterly cold conditions, waving Canadian flags and cheering on the truckers. Tesla founder Elon Musk has also supported the convoy, tweeting “Canadian truckers rule”.
