Turkish man sentenced to 13 years in prison for rape and assault of two teenage girls in Belfast




A Turkish man has been sentenced to 13 years in prison by a Belfast court for the assault on and rape of two teenagers in November 2017.

According to the Irish Times, Orhan Kibar (43) lured two teenage girls, aged 18 and 19, he met outside Queen’s Students Union bar back to his apartment in early hours of November 24th 2017 and subsequently raped one before assaulting the other.

He was convicted of the rape and assault earlier this year but only sentenced on Thursday last, according to the Irish Times report.

Upon sentencing Judge Paul Ramsey QC commended the young women for their “resourcefulness and courage” in helping to bring the Turkish migrant to justice.

Judge Ramsey went on to say Kibar “deliberately targeted these two girls he knew were vulnerable by reason of their intoxication”. This case appears in the Irish Times here.
