A revised Irish passport will prominently display the Irish Wolfhound, reports RTE.

The most popular animal selected by the public for the upcoming next-generation passport design, which is expected to be unveiled next year, according to the Department of Foreign Affairs, was the dog.

New security features and its picture will be incorporated, reports RTE.

Boánn, the wolfhound model for the new design, is owned by Mary Potter of the Irish Wolfhound Club.

She remarked that Boánn was an excellent representation of the breed when speaking on RTÉ’s News at One.

“She is three-and-a-half years-old, weighs about 60 kilos or nine-and-a-half-stone, and is around 34 inches to the shoulder,” Ms Potter said, reports RTE.
