Disaster for Varadkar who admits the government got it badly wrong with the electorate




Dublin South-West voters rejected the Family referendum proposal with a resounding no, receiving 65.66% of the vote, reports RTE.

With 47.55% of voters turning out, 34.34% of voters were in favour.

The results of the Family referendum come in from Wicklow, where 31,308 voters, or 61.16% of the population, cast no votes.

51,738 people voted in favour, or 19,882, or 38.84% of the total, reports RTE.

In Dublin Rathdown, the result was far closer, with 50.6% of voters voting no and 49.4% voting yes.

Thus far, results for 18 out of 39 seats have been announced, making nearby DĂșn Laoghaire the only district to vote yes.

As the Family referendum draws to a close, just less than 70% of Kildare South voters cast ballots against it, reports RTE.

Out of 45.73% of voters, 69.91 opposed the idea and 30.39% were in support of it.

The Family referendum was unanimously rejected by Limerick County voters.

21,602 voters, or 72.62% of the total, cast ballots against the proposal, while 8,145 voters, or 27.38%, supported it.

The formal counting of the ballots for the Care referendum has begun in Louth, reports RTE.
